A sure sign that summer is ending is that M31, the A sure sign that summer is ending is that M31, the Great Andromeda Galaxy, is prominent in the night sky. A mere 2.5 million light years away, our galactic neighbour is the most distant object that can be seen with the naked eye and a favourite target for beginning astrophotographers like me. You can even see that it has two smaller galaxies orbiting it, like the Magellanic Clouds that orbit our Milky Way Galaxy.
Can you deduce the theme of this month’s board g Can you deduce the theme of this month’s board gaming night? We played The Sherlock Files, 13 Clues and Chronicles of Crime. Yes, they were all thrift store finds, but the actual connection is they are deduction games. Sherlock and Chronicles are co-operative games where you are collectively solving a crime mystery whereas 13 Clues is a competitive game which is essentially a variation on Clue except each player has their own crime to deduce. 13 Clues seemed the lightest of the three and was fine, but seems to be missing something to make it better. The Sherlock Files was okay and we were only able to partially figure out the solution. Chronicles of Crime is fundamentally similar to Sherlock except it uses an app that you use to scan QR codes on the cards and board to progress through the story. We failed to properly solve the crime and had to do some serious Googling to find the solution. In the end, I think it was poor writing that failed us and not our detective skills. We can only know by trying one of the other mysteries!

The big difference is that I shot more exposures, about 3 1/2 hours, over four nights. The final photo could still be a lot sharper, but I'm working on it.

The first, which isn’t pictured, was Tuki, a Quebec-made game that has players using stones to build inukshuk faster than everyone else. The other games were Bison, an old Mayfair area-control game with cool three-sides tiles and Tzolk’in, a spectacular Mayan-themed worker placement game that uses a unique gear mechanism to advance your pieces. A good time was had by all!
