Photos: Kicking views of Kingston

I was in Kingston, Ontario for a few days last week, interviewing some of the creative people who live and work there. It’s not my first time in the city, but everyone I met had a love for the city that was palpable. It’s really a great place to visit. Here are a few of the shots of the people I talked to and some other photos I took during previous visits.

Kirkland Lake has no lake

Despite its name, Kirkland Lake no longer has a lake. The northern Ontario mining town was named after the nearby lake, but it was obliterated from the map after it was filled with mine tailings over the years.

Not the world’s longest street

Toronto’s Yonge Street was once thought to be the world’s longest street, but only if you consider Highway 11 as an extension of the road. Today, the Guinness Book of World Records has no such entry, but does have one for the world’s longest “motorable road” which it cites as the Pan-American Highway.

Photos: The beauty of Canada during the winter

As much as Canadians love to complain about the cold during the winter and try our hardest to escape somewhere warm during the darkest season, the truth is that we secretly love it. It is part of who we are.

The photos below, one from each territory and province, show the beauty of the nation when it is blanketed in white. Soon enough, the spring will come with the return of birdsong and the scent of flowers and we get to rediscover the beauty of Canada in another season. We will enjoy it while it lasts, but remember that winter will be back again and will greet it happily when it arrives.

One day, I shall live here #newfoundland – so beautiful it's breath taking even in the winter @heythereitsbryce
