Every May 17 Norway celebrates Constitution Day which marks the signing of the first Norwegian Constitution in Eidsvoll in 1814. The country’s national day is known by Norwegians as syttende mai, which is literally seventeenth May.

The shortest place name in the world is Å, which is used by numerous villages in Norway, Sweden and Denmark. It means stream or river in Scandinavian languages and most places will extend their names, such as Å i Lofoten, to avoid confusion with other towns named Å.
