Ecuador is recovering from a devastating earthquake from earlier this month which has prompted some tourists to cancel their trips to the South American country. That’s probably the worst thing you could do. The best way to help them recover is to visit and spend your tourist dollars in order to aid their economy.

Galapagos by any other name

In Ecuador, the Galapagos Islands are officially named “Archipiélago de Colón” or the Archipelago of Columbus which explains why some of the individual islands have names like Isabela after Queen Isabela of Spain and San Cristóbal in honor of Columbus himself. The irony is that Columbus never even came close to the islands.
