On March 17th, the feast of St. Patrick, everyone is Irish. It’s not true, but there are a lot more of us than you think. While Ireland’s population is a mere 4.5 million, it’s estimated that 80 million people around the world can trace their roots back to the Emerald Isle.
That’s the result of massive waves of emigration from Ireland in the 19th century. My own family can trace back to Ireland when my great-great grandfather on my mother’s side came to Canada in 1855.
