News and notes: Travelcuts film fest, more Mexico flights and YVR wants you

Took some time to wade through the press releases that have been sitting in my inbox and teased out these notes of interest to travellers:

Travelcuts film festival lets Canadians show the world their way

This fall, travelcuts, a Canadian online travel brand focusing on helping young Canadians see the world, will launch their second annual TRAVELCUTS TRAVEL DOC FILM FEST, a collection of short travel docs that put you in some of the coolest off-the-beaten-path destinations on earth.

Canadians will have until September 15 to submit their own travel video for a chance to win $5,000 in travel. Once all entries are in, an expert judging panel will help select the top three videos. Beginning September 23, Canadians will be asked to vote for their favourite video through social media and help pick this year’s winner.

On Thursday October 6, travelcuts will premiere the 2016 travel documentaries at Toronto’s BrainStation, formerly the city’s most recognized hostel.

Service will continue to be operated with the carrier’s 160 seat Boeing 737-800 aircraft, with 16 seats in Clase Premier—Aeromexico’s business class cabin, 144 in economy.

The expansion will allow the carrier to offer the Canadian market more than 9,900 seats per week with this 47% increase.

Help shape the future of YVR

Vancouver International Airport (YVR) launched Phase 2 of YVR 2037, a Master Plan consultation process that offers the community an opportunity to provide input on future land use decision-making and facility development at the airport.
The YVR 2037 Master Plan serves as the blueprint to building a world-class sustainable airport that reflects the needs of British Columbians.

As Canada’s second busiest airport, YVR welcomed a record 20.3 million passengers in 2015, employed more than 23,000 people, generated $5.3 billion in total Gross Domestic Product and drove $11.7 billion to the Canadian economy.

The community is invited to share input online or in person at YVR’s public meetings. Feedback on all aspects of YVR’s future plans are welcome; specific areas of Phase 2 consultation focus include terminals, airside and airspace, ground access, environment, land use and amenities.

YVR will host two public workshops (pre-registration required) and one open house (drop-ins welcome). Registration is available online at YVR2037.ca, by email [email protected] or by calling 604-637-6459.
